The technician assists the nurses and physicians in providing care for the endoscopy patient. They must complete competencies for all basic GI procedures and scope reprocessing. The Technician also supports the area with duties that include, but are not limited to preparation of the procedure room and sterile field to ensure a safe patient care environment including gathering all required instruments and supplies and serving as an endoscopy procedure assistant. The job also includes transportation of patients and equipment, stocking/maintaining supplies, care and maintenance of endoscopes and their accessories contributing to the daily functions of the unit. They have strong sense of infection control in the GI setting.Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:Patient Care1. Proficiency of all general endoscope procedures, equipment, and supplies including cleaning endoscopes and accessories.2. Fulfills all essential functions of the GI Lab Technician. Functions in all areas of the Endoscopy lab.3. Prepares for scheduled, emergent, urgent and add on endoscopic procedures by ensuring necessary equipment, instruments and supplies are ready and set up for use. Has the skill to expedite and organize the preparation for unexpected events, giving direction and support to the less experienced team members.4. Functions independently within scope of position. Anticipates needs of physician and RN during procedures; and anticipates needs of department.Must be proficient to operate all equipment in GI and provide technical assistance during procedures by trouble shooting equipment as needed, manipulating various pieces of equipment and the endoscope as directed by the physician.5. Required to take emergency call after normal operating hours and weekends rotation per department needs (specific to facility of employment.6. Demonstrates in depth knowledge of infection control principles and standards. Takes a proactive role in QI monitoring and improvement plans.Other1.
