If you have 1 ICU patient, you will not get 3 additional PCU patients.PCU:18 months Prior travel experience strongly preferredPatient Types: General PCU Sepsis, pneumonia, DKA, DTs, Multi-system failure, spinal injuries, cardiac cath patients (TR Bands), general surgery patients, respiratory compromise, CHF, COPD, ETOH/CIWA PCU travelers are not required to take vented patients (updated 11/30/21) Stable Neuro Overflow (no devices) Trauma Overflow Cardiovascular OverflowPatient Ratios: ICU 1:1-2 PCU 1:3-4 Med/Surg 1:5Required Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSSSkills required ICU – Cardiac rhythm interpretation, vent and bipap management, invasive line management, ostomy, general drains, traches, chest tubes, lumbar drains, IV medication titration. PCU PICC lines, Access ports, Cardiac rhythm interpretation, bipap management, IV medication titration, PCA s, traches, chest tubes, general drains, ostomies, lumbar drains (rarely),PCU travelers are not required to take vented patients (updated 11/30/21)Support on the Unit: CNA (Ratio 1:9-18) Charge nurse does not take a patient assignment, rarely take a partial patient assignment HUC: 0700 1930 Telemetry Tech 24/7 in addition to bedside monitoring Phlebotomy will complete peripheral draw, nurse is responsible for central line draws Vascular Access Team and trained nurses completes all of the sterile central line dressing changes CODE Nurse, Transport Nurse, House Supervisor Hospitalist Available after hours: YES; there are 2 on-call after hoursCharting System/Equipment: EPIC (Experience strongly preferred) Alaris IV Pumps Pyxis (Medication Dispensing)Floating:ICU:ICU, CVICU, Neuro Trauma ICU, PCU, ACC (Neuro/Trauma PCU), ED Holding ICU doesn t float to Med/Surg (with possible rare exception)PCU:PCU, ACC (Neuro/Trauma PCU), Med/Surg, ED HoldingOrientation: General 3 Full 12-hour shifts on the unit unless return traveler Traveler Telemetry Competency Required? Required to be completed and passed prior to start. SimpliFi Compliance is responsible for grading this exam.Scheduling: You will be added to the existing schedule when you first arrive, and you will be plugged into whatever holes are existing in the schedule. Following that schedule, you will be placed in more of a pattern schedule on future schedules. Time off: It is okay to approve up to 5 days off, but manager is required for more than 5 days.
