The Nurse Manager has 24/7 responsibility for overseeing clinical care of patient cases. Nurse Managers oversee the work of registered nurses and provide leadership, education/training, and direct assistance on cases, as needed. Nurse Managers are also responsible for personnel and budget management and staffing of the unit and clinical care of patients.Unit Leadership: Oversees one or more clinical units and manages the unit s daily workflow. Plans unitbudgets and makes staffing and scheduling decisions. Acts as direct supervisor for all nurses in the unit.Ensures patient needs are addressed appropriately through the actions of registered nurses. Acts as aconduit of information on specific cases, as needed. Leads to quality improvement initiatives, ensuring the unit meets objectives. Leads and champions change management as appropriate.Delivery of Care: Creates policies and protocols to ensure high standards for the delivery of nursing care and participate in policy development with other medical staff. Promotes a work environment supportive of the organization s values. Proactively supervises patient rounding and ensures the routine completion of rounding. Facilitates an environment of cultural excellence including embracing the concept of patient/family-centered care in order to maintain patient, family, and physician satisfaction. Provides oversight for service recovery for individual patient and family complaints and provides follow-up. May take on a patient caseload where unique or emergency situations occur.Quality Assurance: Ensures nurses are adequately monitoring patients and documenting their progress and takes responsibility for the unit s compliance with hospital policies and procedures. Provides guidance and advice to charge and registered nurses on challenging nursing issues. Maintains a cooperative relationship and supports Healthy work environment concepts. Fosters a collaborative work environment for nurses, physicians, and other care providers who are part of the multidisciplinary care delivery team. Sustains a culture of inquiry and excellence in clinical nursing and ensures excellent implementation of care delivery.Unit Management: Provides business management of assigned cost center(s), ensuring the most cost efficient use of Health System resources. Oversees cost center budgets, inventory, staffing. Responsible for hiring, monitoring and ensuring the best possible performance of staff, and taking corrective action up to discharge when necessary. Assures most cost-effective methods are applied as work is completed.
