There are always a minimum of 2 nurses present, sometimes 3. Each RN is the back up for the other. Strong skills are essential. Each RN is depended on equally. Are RNs required to titrate drips?- YesCommon titratable &/or set rate drips – Pitocin induction/augmentation and insulin drips, Mag SulfateCharge Nurse/House Supervisor- Charge nurse on unit. House Supervisor in houseAre there nurse aids/surgical techs on this unit?- We have a CNA II unit secretary OB/Neonatologist in house 24/7?- No but on call 24/7 OB’s in house almost always with laborRT Equipment (vents, Cpap, BiPap, etc)- Vent (stabilize/transfer only) Bubble CPAP Is there tele on this unit? Monitor Techs? RNs read strips?- Central monitoring for fetal strips. Being able to jump from one task or assignment is essential. You may start the shift with 2 nurses and no labors and end the shift with 3 nurses, 2 labors and intermediate baby waiting transfer, and a couple fresh postpartum pairs.
