PALSI.Job Summary: Provided direct and indirect patientcare in the emergency care setting. Provides care that reflectsinitiative, flexibility and responsibility indicative of professional expectation with a minimum of supervision. Determines priorities of care based on physical and psychosocial needs, as well as factors influencing patient flow through the system. Communicateswith Emergency Department physicians about changesin patient s status, symptomatology and results of diagnostic studies. Is able to respondquickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment. II.Demonstrates competency in the followingareas:A.Provides direct patientcare, evaluates outcomes,consults with other specialists as required and adjusts nursing care processes as indicated to ensure optimal patient care.B.Ability to performa head-to-toe assessment on all patientsand reassessments as per policy. This includes pediatric, geriatric and the general patient population.C.Ability to assess and reassesspain and pain management techniques utilized. Educates the patient and family regarding pain management.D.Ability to monitorhemodynamic status of patient and correctly interpret the results.E.Knowledge of cardiacmonitoring, identifies dysrhythmias and treats appropriately.F.Accurately assigns triagecategories.G.Performs and documents an in-depth nursinghistory to include,but not limitedto, chief complaint, health status, and other pertinent information with 100% completion rate, as evidenced by random audit.H.Maintains accurate and continued nursingdocumentation including patient histories, conditions, treatments, responses and assessment of changes.I.Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity. Identifies and addresses psychosocial cultural, ethnic, and religious/spiritual needsof patients and family. Functions as liaison between Administration, patients, physicians and other healthcare providers. J.Knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and the skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care to the patients served.Able to interpret data about the patient s statusin order to identify each patient s age- specific needs and provide care needed by the patient group.K.Interacts professionally with patient and family and involves patientand family in the formation of the plan of care.L.Formulates a teachingplan based upon identified learningneeds and evaluates effectiveness of learning, family is included in teaching as appropriate.M.Maintains current knowledgeof medications and their correctadministration based on age of the patient and his/her clinical condition.N.Prepares, hangs, monitors,and discontinues IV fluids.O.Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, performance improvement program,safety, environmental and infection control standards.P.Maintains a safe, comfortable and therapeutic environment for patients and families in accordance with hospital standards.Q.Assists in cost containment throughappropriate ordering and conserving of supplies and equipment.R.Cooperates with otherpersonnel to achievedepartmental objectives, maintain good employee relations and interdepartmental objectives.S.Assist physicians with procedures in the Emergency Department.T.Assists in orientation of new employees to the Emergency Department.U.Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, currentliterature, in-service meetingsand workshops; shows responsibility for own professional practice and ongoing education.V.Performs other relatedduties as assignedor requested.W.Assists ER Directorin implementing core measures. VIII.Work Environment:While performing the duties of this job, the employeeoccasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to fumesor airborne particles, toxic or causticchemicals, there is a risk of electric shock and risk of radiation.Within the course and scope of this job, the RN may be required as necessary to accompany patients being transported from AVRMC to another facility by ground ambulance.The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
