Do not generally use a specific fast track area Do you have a separate Triage area & do you allow/require travelers to do Triage? Yes, have a triage area & travelers can sometimes work triage depending on their experience.Do you have a separate holding area in the ER or are ER holds intermixed w/in the ER? No separate holding area – intermixed in ERDo ER RN’s manage their own ER holds? ER nurses take holds Do you have separate Psych/seclusion rooms? Is not a separate area; but have 2 ‘safety rooms’ that can be used for psych patientsIn-house Security: In-house on the weekends – working on getting 24/7 coverage# patients per day: 90/day on average; however during peak season can get up to 140/dayNurse:Patient Ratios – Depends on acuity, but generally 1:4-5Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS required, TNCC preferredCommon diagnoses/Types of patients: General ER patients: ABD pain, back pain, lacerations, influenza, COVID, SOB, CP, stroke/CVA w/ TPA, psych, MVAs, some trauma – will stabilize & ship out, DKA, sickle cell, HTN, send out STEMICommon drips: All common ER/critical care drips Experience or ‘Must have’ skills: 2 years of ER experience.Travel preferred, but not required.Need to be able to multitask & keep up with fast pace & high acuity.Need to be proficient with IVs and drips. Prefer ICU hold experience. They have a higher patient load than most CAH. Looking for experience from smaller community hospitals VS CAH because of their volumeEMR: T-systemED Physician &/or Mid-Levels staffed? Generally how many are on at a time?Have both MDs and midlevels staffed (start the day with 1 MD and a midlevel also comes in at 11) – working on adding a 3rd provider that would be another mid-level. Is there a Charge Nurse &/or House Supervisor on each shift? Does the charge nurse take an assignment? Charge nurse on every shift – will take a patient assignmentAre there nurse aids/EMT/Paramedics/Patient Sitters on each shift? Ratios? Duties? PCTs – have 1 in the AM and a 2nd who comes in at noon – general tech duties as well as VS, draw labs, splinting, etcRT Equipment (Vents, Cpap, BiPap, High Flow, etc.) Are RNs required to do anything with these besides trouble shoot? Vents, Bipap, Cpap, etc – nurses need to be able to troubleshootDo you have Tele/Monitor Techs in the ER? Are RNs required to read their own strips? What brand are the Tele monitors Tele is in every room except for ‘safety rooms’. RNs must be able to read and interpret strips.X-Ray or CT in the ER? Transport? In hospital 24/7 – Radiology transportsDoes Phlebotomy draw labs or RNs draw? RNs & techs draw labsShifts & Scheduling (Do you allow self-scheduling? Block scheduling?) 12Hr shifts: 7a, 12p, 3p, 7p. Self scheduling is allowed but not finalized until the manager reviews/approves. Block scheduling allowed.Weekend Requirement: Every other weekendHoliday Requirement: Will be rotated with perm staffIs there a call or standby requirement? NoFloating Requirements: No floatingScrub Color/Dress Code: Caribbean Blue & scrub jacket must be same color or whiteUnit/Department specific orientation: 3 shifts Additional NotesUltra sound and vein finder for ER & MedSurg. RT is here 24/7 (only 1 on at night).Pharmacy in house until 5p – resource nurse mixes meds & they have a book with instructions.Masking is not required if vaccinated. Face mask and shield required if unvaccinated.Really big on customer service & patient satisfaction.
