Surgical First Assistant

Location: Bath, Somerset
Pay Rates:

• Standard: £55.24 per hour
• Nights/Saturdays: £61.27 per hour
• Sundays/Bank Holidays: £67.52 per hour

Contract Type: Full-time, shifts available

Role Overview:

We are currently seeking a highly skilled Surgical First Assistant to join our dynamic surgical team in Bath, Somerset. This role offers the opportunity to work in a fast-paced environment, supporting various surgical procedures while providing expert care to patients throughout their perioperative journey.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide direct assistance to surgeons during a wide range of surgical procedures.
• Prepare and maintain sterile environments, ensuring all equipment and instruments are ready for use.
• Support in patient positioning, draping, and skin preparation in line with surgical protocols.
• Monitor patient vitals during procedures, working closely with the surgical and anaesthetic teams.
• Assist with post-operative care, ensuring patient safety and comfort during recovery.
• Follow infection control policies and maintain operating room sterility standards.

Requirements:

• NMC or HCPC registration as a qualified Surgical First Assistant.
• Proven experience working in a surgical setting, ideally across multiple specialities.
• Strong understanding of surgical procedures and operating theatre protocols.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate within a multidisciplinary team.
• A flexible approach to working hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Desirable Skills:

• Experience working in orthopaedic, cardiovascular, or general surgery.
• Advanced life support (ALS) certification.
• Strong leadership skills to support junior staff within the surgical team.
