Licensure: Must have a current license in the state of practice. Prior Neonatal and Pediatric Intensive care experience required. Certifications: Registered as a therapist by the National Board of Respiratory Care (RRT). BLS, NRP and PALS Job Summary: Safety/Risk Management – Demonstrates safe medication administration. – Follows all policies/procedures for Incident Report/Sentinel Events. – Follows all confidentiality policies/procedures. – Complies with infection control guidelines. – Creates a safe environment through various safety practices, including, but not limited to: – Fall precaution – Restraint management – – Utilization of Patient I.D. identifiers – Read back of telephone and verbal orders; sign off of daily orders – Time out procedures – Communication handoffs – Unit/Department-specific policies – Respects patients’/guests’ personal property. – Adheres to hospital wide and department-specific safety regulations, including, but not limited to: – Fire and tornado – Environmental safety – Complies with patients’ rights/regulations. Coordination of Services/Communication Management – Functions as a Preceptor and/or Resource person. – Participates in chair committees and activities (such as RQIPP or workout sessions). – Works two or more designated areas as required. – Coordinates workflow by communicating to appropriate personnel in a timely manner. – Participates in Physician Rounds. – Identifies and resolves problems related to patient, families, physicians, staff, and equipment. – Communicates patient goals, objectives and changes in status to other health care team members and utilizes input to revise care plan for optimum patient benefit. – Handoff report is factual, accurate, organized, complete, current, and confidential. – Makes independent decisions in routine and complex situations and informs appropriate team members of actions and results.j. Transcribes physicians orders accurately, seeking clarification as necessary. – – Demonstrates ability to collaborate with inter and intra- disciplinary colleagues and community Primary Clinical Aspects – Performs technical skills relative to area of respiratory practice. – Demonstrates competence in assisting physicians with diagnostic and therapeutic interventions. – Demonstrates ability to assess and identify needs of patient and families (physical, psychosocial, and spiritual). – Implements appropriate respiratory care interventions and procedures. – Documentation is factual, accurate, organized, complete, current, and confidential. – Identifies patient and caregiver education needs, utilizes appropriate resources to meet needs, and documents patient teaching. – Initiates, updates and maintains care plan in timely manner to reflect changing needs of patients and families. – Assures all patient charges/credits are entered appropriately. – Continues to stay current with the literature and best practice in Neonatal and Pediatric Respiratory Care. – Demonstrates proper time management skills and prioritizes patient care. – Demonstrates flexibility regarding workload, assignments and other change. – Demonstrates caring practices in interactions with patients, families and other co-workers – Demonstrates appropriate knowledge base related to medications and adheres to hospital policies regarding their administration. – Demonstrates clinical reasoning skills, which includes decision-making, critical thinking and a global grasp of the situation, coupled with Implementing appropriate respiratory therapy in routine situations. Primary Operational Aspects – Observes Medical Center/departmental policies and operational guidelines, including, but not limited to: – Attendance – Tardiness – Dress Code – Reads email and keeps up to date on departmental communication. – Attends daily huddles and other departmental meetings and inservices.
