Key Responsibilities of the Respiratory Therapist

• Provide high-quality respiratory care to patients in acute and critical care settings

• Assess, plan, and implement individualized respiratory therapy treatments

• Administer oxygen therapy, aerosolized medications, and ventilator management per physician orders

• Perform diagnostic tests including arterial blood gas analysis and pulmonary assessments

• Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes

• Monitor patient progress, adjust therapies as needed, and document care accurately

• Ensure compliance with hospital policies, safety procedures, and regulatory standards

Requirements of the Respiratory Therapist

• Active Georgia Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license

• Current RRT or CRT credential through the NBRC

• Current BLS, ACLS and PALS certification

• Strong clinical judgment, attention to detail, and teamwork skills
