If a certified Radiologic technologist is reported to the department for out-of-the scope practice (that is working beyond their authorization scope), and if an MRIT certified through ARRT or ARMRIT is found to be performing procedures (s) under this designation and do not hold the WA Radiologic Technologist license with the Magnetic Resonance Imaging designation, they will be deemed to be unlicensed. (Online verification site lists Radiologic Technologist Certification for all licenses – travelers must download an official copy of their license through their WA online account, showing the MRI designation, and upload to Medical Solutions App)Our SMC Licensure/Certification requires an ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) certification, and unfortunately, the ARMRIT (American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists) certification does not meet our current requirements. A technologist with an ARMRIT certification would meet the requirements if they also take and pass the ARRT boards for MR certification thus be certified as an ARRT (MR). Additionally, if the MRI candidate is certified with the ARRT in Radiology (R), or Computed Tomography (CT) they would need to have or acquire a Washington state license. There will be a change to this in that the State is working on requiring MRI technologists to have a Washington State license, however this has not been instituted at this time. License/Certification: American Registry of Radiology Technologists (ARRT) certification is required. State of Washington Certification as a Radiological Technologist required unless ARRT(MR) is achieved through the ARRT Primary Pathway. ARRT MRI Certification is preferred.
