The individual performs general diagnostic, portable, bedside, and Computed Tomography (CT) exams. The Radiologic Technologist uses sound judgment and radiologic skills to obtain the highest quality images while keeping radiation doses to patients and personnel as low as reasonably achievable (ALARA). Shift Summary: Monday and Friday 0900-1730, Saturday and Sunday 0700-1930 (F, S, S, M), 40 hours per week Responsibility: Reads requisition to determine area of interest, refers to exam guidelines for necessary views. Uses practical knowledge of anatomy for proper positioning to obtain optimum image quality. Speaks with patient to ascertain pertinent history associated with requested exam. Uses language based on the age and mental status of the patient to convey exam information. Assesses patient condition to assure best method of performing requested exam. Shows patients how equipment may be moved and what is expected of them. Notifies nursing personnel immediately of any change in patient s condition. Updates and changes exam descriptions to reflect actual exams performed. Reviews daily radiology charge reports to assure the correct billing of patient accounts. After consulting with radiologist, communicates with referring provider when orders need to be changed to ensure the most appropriate procedure for the patient is accomplished. Fills out on-line forms upon exam completion thereby expediting reporting of exam results. Explains what the procedure entails to the patient thereby securing maximum cooperation. Utilizes radiographic and computed tomography equipment inside the department. Utilizes the portable and C-Arm equipment inside the hospital and operating room. Demonstrates correct use of personal barrier equipment in instances when required. Uses sterile technique when drawing solution into syringes & connecting tubing to bags/bottles. Inspects contrast media bottles and normal saline bags for expiration dates prior to usage. Draws up appropriate contrast media volume and concentration according to CT protocols. Conducts checks ensuring contrast warmer temperature is within manufacturer s guidelines. Places patient in proper alignment with respect to x-ray beam, anatomic part and cassette. Follows department protocol manual to include views, cassette size and positioning. Provides additional views when requested and documents any deviation from protocol. Uses immobilization devices appropriately as needed. Selects technical factors taking into account the age, anatomy and physiology of the patient. Employs x-ray beam collimation and patient protective devices prudently. Uses automatic exposure techniques when appropriate. Wears radiation monitoring device at all times while working in areas where radiation is in use. Reviews images for image quality. If not diagnostic, repeats views as deemed necessary. Reviews images for proper positioning of body part being imaged. Repeats judiciously. Uses personal lead identification markers when performing diagnostic imaging studies. Ensures appropriate image presentation states are loaded onto STENTOR for interpretation. Performs warmup of x-ray and CT tubes according to manufacturer s guidelines. Identifies patient by verbally questioning their name against the patient s wristband. Operates assigned equipment and perform all procedures adhering to safety standards. Reports equipment malfunctions immediately to supervisor or maintenance personnel. Maintains confidentiality of all hospital and patient information according to HIPPA guidelines. Completes other duties as assigned by the Radiology Supervisor Professional Communication: Maintain confidentiality in matters relating to patient/family. Interact with patients/families with a variety of developmental and sociocultural backgrounds. Provide information to patients and families to reduce anxiety and convey an attitude of acceptance, sensitivity, and caring. Maintain professional relationships and convey relevant information to other members of the health care team within facility and any applicable referral agencies. Initiate communication with peers about clinical priorities for care. (In shared or delegated assignments), make clinical rounds at the onset of the assignment and communicate to team members throughout the tour of duty. Relay information appropriately over telephone, pagers, and other communication devices. Teamwork: Accept a patient care assignment in home unit or area(s) of assignment based on patient census, acuity, needs, and the qualifications and competencies of self and of other staff members. Work closely with other care providers to complete imaging scans of patients and to provide clinical assistance as needed. Delegate work to other staff members as needed. Report on patient conditions to those who require information, including physicians, clinical directors/managers/administrative supervisors, and other staff. Initiate problem-solving and conflict resolution skills to foster effective work relationships with peers. Report to work on time and as scheduled. Professional Development: Attend staff meetings, in-services, and continuing education as required for the position and the specific unit/area(s) of assignment. Contribute to the annual review of unit/area-based scope of care statement and determination of important aspects of care for clinical review. Contribute to annual reviews of peer performance as requested by the unit/area supervisor, manager, or director. Assist in the development of indicators, thresholds, study methods, and data collection as assigned. Respond to problems/opportunities to improve care/customer service Support involvement in the hospital’s Performance Improvement initiative. Participate in and maintain competencies required for the position and specific unit/area(s) of assignment. Qualifications: Education: Successful completion of an Accredited Radiologic Technology Program Experience: At least three years of imaging experience — CT experience required Licensure: Must maintain current Washington State DOH Certified Radiologic Technologist license; Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification Registration: ARRT (R) Position Urgency:Normal Billing string = Lincoln Hospital and Clinics; WA – CT/Rad Tech – $110/hr AIR – 40 hours a week
