Qualified Social Worker – Adults’ Services (Portsmouth City Council)

Job Overview

We are recruiting a dedicated **Qualified Social Worker (QSW)** to join **Portsmouth City Council’s Adults’ Services team**. In this role, you will work with adults who have a range of care and support needs, ensuring their safety, promoting independence, and enabling them to live fulfilling lives within the community.

You will carry out statutory assessments, manage complex cases, and work closely with partner agencies to provide effective, person-centred care and safeguarding.

Key Responsibilities

Undertake Care Act 2014 assessments to identify needs, strengths, and risks.

Develop, implement, and review personalised care and support plans.

Lead safeguarding enquiries and ensure robust risk management processes are in place.

Undertake Mental Capacity Act assessments and contribute to best-interest decisions.

Prepare and present clear, evidence-based reports for panels, reviews, and legal proceedings.

Work collaboratively with health professionals, housing services, voluntary and community organisations to deliver integrated care.

Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential records in line with council policy and professional standards.

Contribute to reflective supervision, peer learning, and service development within Adults’ Services.

About You

You are an experienced and compassionate social worker with strong skills in case management and safeguarding. You can work effectively with adults and their families, balancing professional decision-making with a commitment to independence, dignity, and wellbeing.

Requirements

Qualified Social Worker (QSW) with registration to **Social Work England**.

Post-qualification experience in Adults’ Services, including safeguarding and complex casework.

Strong knowledge of the Care Act 2014, Mental Capacity Act, and adult safeguarding procedures.

Excellent assessment, communication, and report-writing skills.

Ability to manage complex caseloads while maintaining a person-centred approach.
