Specialist Occupational Therapist – Band 6 (Locum)

Job Overview

We are recruiting a Band 6 Specialist Occupational Therapist to join Northern Devon Healthcare NHS Trust (NDDH) within the Devon NHS. This locum role is based within an inpatient MSK and Occupational Therapy service, providing specialist assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation to patients with musculoskeletal and functional needs. You will play a key role in promoting safe recovery, independence, and effective discharge planning within a hospital inpatient setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide specialist occupational therapy assessment and treatment for inpatients with MSK and functional impairments.
     

  • Develop, implement, and review individualised rehabilitation and treatment plans.
     

  • Support patients to maximise independence in activities of daily living during admission.
     

  • Contribute to safe and timely discharge planning through functional assessment and MDT collaboration.
     

  • Work closely with physiotherapists, nurses, doctors, and wider multidisciplinary colleagues.
     

  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation in line with Trust and HCPC standards.
     

  • Use evidence-based practice and sound clinical reasoning to guide interventions.

   

  About You

  You are an experienced Occupational Therapist with a background in inpatient and musculoskeletal rehabilitation. You bring strong assessment and intervention skills, a proactive approach to patient care, and confidence working within a fast-paced hospital environment. Your ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and manage a varied caseload will support positive patient outcomes.

  Requirements  

  • • Degree or diploma in Occupational Therapy and current HCPC registration.
       

    • Experience working within an inpatient occupational therapy setting.
       

    • Experience in musculoskeletal (MSK) rehabilitation is highly desirable.
       

    • Strong clinical reasoning, assessment, and documentation skills.
       

    • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
