Advanced Social Worker – Adults’ Services (Southwark Council)

Job Overview

We are recruiting an experienced **Advanced Social Worker (Qualified Social Worker)** to join **Southwark Council’s Adults’ Services team**. This senior practice role combines complex case management with professional leadership, supporting colleagues while ensuring adults receive effective, person-centred care and safeguarding.

As an Advanced Social Worker, you will take the lead on high-risk cases, provide mentoring and supervision to colleagues, and contribute to service development and continuous improvement across Adults’ Services.

Key Responsibilities

Lead on complex adult social care cases, including safeguarding enquiries and Mental Capacity Act assessments.

Provide professional guidance, mentoring, and reflective supervision to social workers and support staff.

Undertake Care Act 2014 assessments to identify needs, strengths, and risks.

Develop, implement, and review personalised care and support plans.

Carry out best-interest assessments and contribute to legal proceedings when required.

Prepare and present clear, evidence-based reports for panels, reviews, and court hearings.

Work collaboratively with health services, housing, voluntary organisations, and community partners to deliver joined-up support.

Ensure compliance with the Care Act 2014, Mental Capacity Act, and adult safeguarding frameworks.

Support audits, quality assurance processes, and service improvement initiatives.

About You

You are a confident and resilient social worker with substantial post-qualification experience in adults’ services. You are highly skilled in safeguarding practice, advanced casework, and providing professional leadership to colleagues.

Requirements

Qualified Social Worker (QSW) with registration to **Social Work England**.

Extensive post-qualification experience within Adults’ Services, including safeguarding and complex case management.

In-depth knowledge of the Care Act 2014, Mental Capacity Act, and adult safeguarding legislation.

Proven ability to supervise, mentor, or support colleagues in practice.

Excellent assessment, communication, and report-writing skills.

Ability to balance advanced practice responsibilities with a demanding caseload.
