Advanced Practitioner – Children’s Services (London Borough of Barnet)

Job Overview

We are recruiting an experienced **Advanced Practitioner (Qualified Social Worker – QSW)** to join the **London Borough of Barnet Children’s Services team**. This role is focused on managing the most complex safeguarding cases, providing expert guidance to colleagues, and ensuring the highest standards of social work practice are maintained to protect children and support families.

As an Advanced Practitioner, you will act as a practice leader within the team, offering mentoring and professional oversight to less experienced social workers, contributing to service development, and ensuring child-centred outcomes are achieved.

Key Responsibilities

Lead on complex safeguarding and child protection cases.

Undertake statutory assessments under the Children Act to identify risks, needs, and strengths.

Develop, implement, and review effective care and protection plans.

Provide expert mentoring, coaching, and practice support to colleagues.

Prepare and present high-quality, evidence-based reports for child protection conferences, statutory reviews, and court proceedings.

Build strong, trusting relationships with children, young people, and families to promote positive outcomes.

Work collaboratively with schools, health professionals, police, and voluntary organisations to ensure effective multi-agency support.

Ensure accurate, timely, and compliant case recording in line with legislation and Barnet Council policies.

Contribute to audits, service reviews, and continuous professional development within the team.

About You

You are a confident and resilient social worker with substantial post-qualification experience in children’s services. You are skilled in managing high-risk safeguarding cases, supporting colleagues, and leading by example to ensure safe and effective practice.

Requirements

Qualified Social Worker (QSW) with registration to **Social Work England**.

Extensive post-qualification experience in Children’s Services.

Proven ability to manage complex safeguarding and child protection cases.

Experience of mentoring, coaching, or supporting less experienced social workers.

Strong knowledge of child protection legislation, statutory frameworks, and best practice.

Excellent assessment, communication, and report-writing skills.
