TravCon23: Why Travel Healthcare Workers Should Attend the Largest Travel Healthcare Conference

The Travelers Conference (TravCon) is the largest in-person travel healthcare conference that educates travelers all over the US. The conference takes place in Las Vegas. This year it runs from September 17th through the 20th. Join TGN’s Community Manager, Rachel Altum, and special guests, Laura Latimer and Dylan Callier (both TravCon committee members and TravCon23 speakers)  as they discuss the importance of going to a travel healthcare conference as a traveler and answer frequently asked questions about the conference.  As well as how to attend and what to expect at the conference.

If you have never attended TravCon but are interested in learning more about it, be sure to watch this session on demand!

About the Presenter:

Rachel Altum (Rachel@TheGypsyNurse.com): Rachel is the Online Community Manager of The Gypsy Nurse.  As The Gypsy Nurse’s first employee, she has helped grow and manage our travel nurse community since 2014.  She has a background in Communications and Graphic Design from Indiana University.  She recently spoke at the National Social Medica Week Conference in 2019 about our rapidly growing Travel Nurse Network group on Facebook.  She enjoys traveling, tennis, yoga, graphic design, and spending time with her 2 rescue dogs, Chewy and Gilly.

Dylan Callier  (dylan@travcon.org): Dylan is a Doctor of Physical Therapy that has been involved in travel healthcare for 6 years. Dylan started the New Medical Nomads Podcast by interviewing other travelers before jumping in as an outpatient physical therapist. After feeling the pressure of high productivity, Dylan tried the setting of Home Health and has worked almost exclusively in this area for the last 5 years. Dylan is also a TravCon committee member since 2018. His involvement with the conference and other special projects has allowed him to learn more about allied travel professions as a whole and the unique challenges they face. Dylan is a returning speaker at TravCon this year at Newbie BootCamp and the clinical session “Trust Me, I’m Lying: The Challenges of Science in Healthcare” and can be seen at TravCon 2023 September 17th-20th.

Laura Latimer

Laura Latimer (laura@nomadicare.com): is a former traveler and the founder of Nomadicare. She’s passionate about giving healthcare travelers the tools, education, and resources they need to thrive and get paid fair. Laura kickstarted her career in the travel healthcare industry and quickly developed a passion for it. This field combines the thrill of adventure for healthcare professionals (such as nurses, therapists, and technicians) with the staffing needs of hospitals and facilities across the country. However, Laura noticed a significant challenge in the industry – the traveler’s experiences were often determined by the honesty and integrity of their recruiters. This meant that they may or may not be paid fairly, receive check-in calls, or receive adequate support during their journeys. With a desire to bring positive change to the industry, Laura saw the potential for technology to make the experience smoother and more transparent for everyone. In 2014, she founded Nomadicare, the only company that carefully vets and holds recruiters accountable in the travel healthcare industry.
