About the presenters:
Rachel Altum (TGN’s Online Community Manager)
Rachel is our Online Community Manager. As The Gypsy Nurse’s first employee, she has helped grow and manage our travel nurse community since 2014. Rachel has a background in Communications and Graphic Design from Indiana University. She recently spoke at the National Social Media Week Conference in 2019 about our rapidly growing Travel Nurse Network group on Facebook. She enjoys traveling, yoga, graphic design, and spending time with her two rescue dogs, Chewy and Gilly.
Brandy Pinkerton (Travel Nurse 101)
Brandy is a seasoned nursing professional with over 21 years of extensive experience in neonatal and pediatric ICU, critical care float pool, flight nursing, travel nursing, and nurse education. Her nursing journey has taken her to various states, including Florida, Colorado, Nevada, South Carolina, Texas, and Montana. Beyond her nursing roles, she is a passionate traveler, dedicated hiker, and outdoor enthusiast.
In recent years, she has played a key role in establishing Travel Nurse 101, a brand focused on providing education and mentorship to traveling healthcare professionals. Through this initiative, she strives to help individuals navigate the challenges of travel nursing, offering guidance to avoid common pitfalls and ensuring success in their endeavors.
Recognized for her commitment to the nursing community, she’s had the privilege of participating in various speaking sessions, has served as a freelance writer, and was honored as Nurse.Org’s Most Inspirational Nurse in 2023. As your fellow travel nurse friend and mentor, she is here to share her experiences and support you on your professional journey.
About Travel Nurse 101:
Travel Nurse 101 is education, tips, and mentorship for new travel nurses that I hope is perceived as very genuine and heartfelt, not just your normal Q&A. It has a “personable” feel and is something I want to always try to maintain, so nurses feel like they have a safe place to get help and ask for advice from a real nurse who’s been where they have and personally knows what it feels like to go through these experiences.
This mentorship program aims to give you the tools you need to be successful and let you know that you are not alone in your pursuits.
