DESCRIPTION

Job Summary:
The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Vascular Unit is responsible for delivering comprehensive patient care to individuals with vascular diseases or conditions. This includes assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care for patients undergoing vascular surgery, interventional procedures, or managing chronic vascular conditions. The RN collaborates closely with physicians, surgeons, and a multidisciplinary team to provide high-quality, patient-centered care.

Key Responsibilities:
Patient Assessment & Monitoring:
Perform thorough assessments, including vital signs, vascular assessments, and symptom evaluations.
Monitor patients for any changes in their vascular condition and respond to emergencies.
Vascular Care Expertise:
Provide specialized care to patients undergoing vascular surgeries (e.g., bypass, endarterectomy) or treatments like angioplasty, stenting, and thrombolysis.
Administer medications, including anticoagulants and thrombolytics, and monitor for side effects.
Educate patients on managing vascular conditions, post-surgical care, and lifestyle modifications.
Care Planning & Implementation:
Develop individualized care plans based on each patient’s needs and collaborate with the healthcare team to ensure optimal outcomes.
Assist with diagnostic tests such as Doppler ultrasounds and angiograms.
Prepare patients for surgical or interventional procedures and provide post-procedure care.
Patient Education & Communication:
Communicate with patients and their families to explain care plans, treatments, and post-discharge instructions.
Provide education about disease prevention, risk factors, and management of vascular conditions (e.g., peripheral artery disease, aneurysms).
Collaboration & Teamwork:
Work with vascular surgeons, interventional radiologists, and other members of the care team to coordinate comprehensive care.
Participate in interdisciplinary rounds and contribute to patient care planning.
Documentation:
Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, including assessments, care plans, interventions, and outcomes.
Ensure compliance with hospital policies and regulatory standards.
Qualifications:
Education:
Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN preferred)
Current RN licensure in [State]
Experience:
Minimum of 1-2 years of clinical experience in a vascular, surgical, or critical care setting preferred.
Experience with vascular procedures or post-surgical care is a plus.
Certifications:
BLS (Basic Life Support) required; ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) preferred.
Additional vascular nursing certifications (e.g., Certified Vascular Nurse) are desirable but not required.
Skills & Abilities:
Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.
Ability to respond to emergencies in a calm and efficient manner.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with patients, families, and the healthcare team.
Competence in using electronic medical records (EMR) systems.
