Qualified Social Worker – Children’s Services (Portsmouth City Council)
Job Overview
We are recruiting a committed **Qualified Social Worker (QSW)** to join **Portsmouth City Council’s Children’s Services team**. This role focuses on safeguarding children, supporting families, and delivering child-centred interventions that ensure positive and sustainable outcomes.
You will manage complex caseloads, undertake statutory assessments, and work collaboratively with families and multi-agency partners to provide safe, effective, and timely support.
Key Responsibilities
Undertake child protection and safeguarding assessments in line with statutory frameworks.
Develop, implement, and review child-focused care and support plans.
Manage complex caseloads, ensuring timely interventions and robust risk management.
Prepare high-quality, evidence-based reports for court, child protection conferences, and statutory reviews.
Work collaboratively with health, education, police, and voluntary sector partners to deliver joined-up interventions.
Ensure the child’s voice is central to all assessments, planning, and decision-making.
Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential records in line with professional standards and council policy.
Contribute to reflective supervision, peer discussions, and service development within Children’s Services.
About You
You are a resilient and compassionate social worker with strong safeguarding and assessment skills. You are confident managing complex cases, working collaboratively with multi-agency partners, and ensuring children’s safety and wellbeing are at the heart of your practice.
Requirements
Qualified Social Worker (QSW) with registration to **Social Work England**.
Post-qualification experience in Children’s Services, including safeguarding and child protection.
Strong knowledge of child development, family dynamics, and legislation (Children Act 1989/2004, Working Together to Safeguard Children).
Excellent assessment, communication, and report-writing skills.
Ability to work effectively under pressure while maintaining a child-centred approach.
